Importance of Completing End of Course Surveys

Results are in from student evaluations gathered after the latest master's session. The feedback received is very informative, but only one-third of the students responded to the survey-in some courses only one student responded. This lack of response is problematic as one student's experience may be quite different from others in the course. For this reason, the importance of completing student evaluations cannot be overstated.

Whether responses are positive or negative, the College is extremely interested in student reactions to both the master's program and individual classes. Completed surveys are regarded very seriously; any feedback (positive and negative) is always kept anonymous. In the past, very significant changes were implemented based on student evaluations, and the College would appreciate the opportunity to continue to improve your experience in the master's program. However, this is only possible when we have a significant amount of respondents to the student surveys. Please complete student evaluation surveys which are sent to you; it is the best way to enhance your experience, as well as helping other students, at the College.

Interview with the Master's Faculty

Travis W. Raish, MBA, CFA®

List of Courses Taught:
FIN542 - Analysis of Equity Investments
FIN580 - Managing Equity Investments

Travis Raish

This month's newsletter profiles adjunct professor Travis Raish. Travis' finance career was influenced early on by his father. Halfway into his undergraduate degree, he realized that finance also meant investing, not just banking or insurance. These concepts started to connect for Travis. He began to pursue internships working with investment professionals who were well respected in his community. After college he spent a decade working as an investment analyst at a mutual fund company. As his level of understanding and dedication to the profession began to grow, he pursued his graduate degree and earned the CFA charter. He felt fortunate enough to work with people who have helped shape his early perceptions and understandings of investing and business, which have contributed to the foundation of the investment practice he has today.

In addition to general finance, Travis' expertise is concentrated in investment analysis and portfolio management. His analytical background and practice emphasizes equities, equity mutual funds, and derivative securities based on equities. Travis has always enjoyed the teaching component of any professional position. He feels that, "Sharing information with others and helping them understand a process is tremendously rewarding." Since his career has evolved in the investment industry, he has found that he is now in the position to help people not just by acting as their advisor but also by helping them understand more about basic investment principles.

Travis is a Colorado native who now lives in Georgia with his wife, Amy. Travis enjoys running and finds it is a good way to relieve stress in addition to the direct health benefits. He also enjoys traveling, cooking, and playing golf.

MSTR1101-1105 Final Examination Testing

MSTR1101-MSTR1105 now incorporates the CFPE final examinations as part of the courses' direct assessment. This will require that each student take the final examination during the final week of the course. The final examination is proctored and is taken online. The intent of this direct assessment is to measure the student's mastery of the course's learning objectives using a successful assessment tool. This is the same examination that all College self-study and mentor students take and should allow you to get a "feel" for the CFP® Certification Examination. Each examination is worth 100 points.

Migration to PFP510-516

In October 2006, the MSTR1101-1105 courses will be expanded to seven courses, providing more time for the MSTR1101, 1104, and 1105 course materials. The new configuration will be:

New Registrar/Academic Counselor

Greetings! My name is Viviane Price and I am the new Registrar at the College for Financial Planning I have also assumed the duties of Academic Counselor for the Master's degree program. My primary goal is to track your progress as you work toward completing your Master's degree program, and to answer any questions you may have regarding courses, your degree program, or the Master's program policies and procedures.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I have been with the College since 1985 and, as you might imagine, in that time I have done just about everything there is to do at the College. I am sensitive to the needs of the adult student because I too completed my degree while working full time. I currently hold a bachelor's degree in Christian Ministries and another degree in Biblical Theology, and my dream is to eventually teach theology or biblical studies at the college level. I enjoy traveling and have been all over the states and several countries in Europe and Great Britain.

As you progress through your program, do not hesitate to contact me at any time for assistance. You can contact me at Viviane.Price@apollogrp.edu or 800.237.9990 ext. 4868. I wish you the best of luck in all of your courses as you complete your program!
