Published Article |
Congratulations to Greg Rudd, who was recently published in the Journal of Financial Planning. The featured article can be found in the section on its website called "Between the Issues."
Greg is currently a student in the master's program. The article that he had written was taken from a paper he had started in COM500 - Communications and Research Techniques for Master's Students. He states, "I did not know I could write until getting into the master's course at the College. My experience at the College has been nothing but positive." |

Faculty Appointment |
It is with great pleasure that the Faculty Appointment Committee unanimously voted to appoint Jim Pasztor to the rank of Associate Professor. This appointment reflects Jim's contributions to the faculty and the College, and activities related to his profession. He is one the authors of the College's recent advanced professional development course, "Diversification of International Holdings in Portfolios." Jim has rewritten the CFP 2 materials to be much more effective, readable, and consistent with the other certification courses. He also is the lead for faculty of the master's investment courses in the Personal Financial Planning major.
We sincerely appreciate his efforts and stewardship within the PFP major, guidance in the investment-related aspects of our master's and certification courses, and contributions to the College's continued success. |
HLC Accreditation |
|
The College will be seeking reaccreditation in the spring of 2011. The College would appreciate if you would participate in all the surveys in support of the College's reaccreditation process. We will do our best not to inundate you with too many surveys but only ones pertinent to the process. |

Advanced Professional Development Series (APDS) |
|
As the leader in financial planning education, the College has researched the topics considered beyond the scope of basic financial planning and developed an all new-line of Advanced Professional Development courses that delve into these subjects in depth.
Current Issues in Retirement Planning
Read just about any journal, magazine, newspaper, or website that deals with things financial and you will invariably see an article or survey stating that people are living longer. "Current Issues in Retirement Planning" will attempt to address the corollary issues concerning living longer while retired and its effect on health care costs from two perspectives. First, how to determine the amount needed to fund a given lifestyle in retirement, and second, how much of the retiree’s accumulated assets can safely be withdrawn each year so that the retiree will not run out of money. The course also includes some coverage of dealing with an extended bear market, the impact that unexpected expenses may have on existing plans, and the possibility that the individual may live longer than expected.
Diversification of International Holdings in Portfolios
With the current uncertainty in the domestic market, more investors are looking to diversify their portfolios with international investments. "Diversification of International Holdings in Portfolios" takes a practical look at international markets, including stocks, bonds, and real estate. Current data and research make this a timely and valuable guide for any advisor wanting to learn more about diversifying abroad, with insight into the global marketplace, including projections on what the future may hold.
The above APDS products have been published. "Stock Options & Nonqualified Deferred Compensation Plans Under Section 409A" will be published 11/21. "Practice Development and Management" will be released on December 1, 2008.
All four have applicability to the PFP major.
Also, completion of the courses are worth 5 hours of CE credit with CFP Board. |

FA Majors |
Hal Lenhart has started his review of the FA readings and the FA major students will see the changes in the courses commencing in October 2008. |
